A 90 minute endurance race with 14 industry teams of 3 persons

After an undecipherable video briefing, the assembled boy and girl racers were treated to an inaudible verbal briefing. Somewhat predictably, total confusion ensued during practice and continued through the race. The grid formed up (in no particular order) and drove straight into a first corner mass pile up. Ninety minutes, three Red Flags and half a dozen Black Flags later, the teams that headed up the leader board were those that had perhaps concentrated on survival rather than panache - and had managed to pick their way through the carnage, avoid breakdowns and flat tyres and not run out of petrol...

The eventual victors, Team McLaren, won by two clear laps having started in last place on the grid. Team member Martin Hopewell was still grinning from ear to ear 4 hours later back at the hotel bar with the covetted Stacey Cup slung round his neck on his conference lanyard - and his co-driver, Charlie Shun, is reported to have spent the night with the trophy tucked up in bed next to him...
