Crowd Management Academy Launches |
With the traditionally informal nature of professional development in live music, a company offering a paid contract for management training even before a job offer is unheard of. But, according to UK crowd management specialists Showsec, it’s the way forward.
Formalising an operational career path within the security industry, Showsec has launched a managerial academy, offering a year-long mix of classroom and vocational training. The company is so convinced of the importance of the Showsec Academy that it’s committing a significant chunk of company turnover to the plan.
To attract potential new operations executives, Showsec advertised in national newspapers and online, receiving 120 applications for the 12-month course that offers a salary of £18,000 (€22,500) while training.
In total, six successful recruits were offered contracts, and Showsec is aiming to induct two classes per year. If they pass the course, the Showsec Academy Associates will then be offered full-time roles as operations executives.
“By offering this type of qualification internally, we are able to transfer knowledge and experience specifically tailored to our industry,” says Showsec MD Mark Harding. “By channelling this expertise through the Showsec Academy we are effectively producing the next generation of management.”
The next phase of Showsec’s training programme is to roll out the training structure with sister operation The Security Company in the Netherlands, creating an international academy. “It’s a very exciting prospect for crowd management across Europe,” says project manager Keith Hackett.
