After celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the ILMC is
raising delegate numbers to top 1,000 for the first time in 2009. The
increase comes after another successful event which saw 940 delegates
from 96 countries gather in London last month
“We had a record attendance this year and at the end of the weekend it
was unanimously agreed that we needn’t have turned so many people
away,” says conference head Martin Hopewell.
After celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the ILMC is raising delegate numbers to top 1,000 for the first time in 2009. The increase comes after another successful event which saw 940 delegates from 96 countries gather in London last month
“We had a record attendance this year and at the end of the weekend it was unanimously agreed that we needn’t have turned so many people away,” says conference head Martin Hopewell.
ILMC 20’s Summer of Love theme might have escaped the attention of participants on the ticketing panel, which threatened to become physical in the green room beforehand, but it was the best attended session of the weekend, aside from Carl Leighton-Pope’s regular Talking Shop.
Alongside ILMC regulars such as festivals, venues and emerging markets, other topics for discussion included immigration, green issues within the industry, the role of managers within touring, and media partnerships.
“We’d aimed for a real milestone this year, and really wanted it to be bigger, bolder and brighter than ever, which is how it turned out,” Hopewell says.
In recognition of the anniversary, ILMC 20’s Gala Dinner almost doubled in size, with over 350 industry luminaries gathering to witness the Arthur Awards. This year’s bottle award – for outstanding services to the live music industry – went to Michael Chugg.
The dates for the next edition have been confirmed as 13-15 March 2009, and it will once again take place at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, West London. Read IQ’s conference report on page 16 of IQ, or click here .
