The Beatbox Goes On

With its third anniversary fast approaching, Beatbox Booking and Concerts in Norway is celebrating having doubled its business every year since inception by turning its sights to stadium shows in 2008.

With its third anniversary fast approaching, Beatbox Booking and Concerts in Norway is celebrating having doubled its business every year since inception by turning its sights to stadium shows in 2008.

Domestic agency Beatbox Booking was established by former DKB Motor (Live Nation) employee Peter Sørensen in January 2005, with the international promotion division, Beatbox Concerts, added after the arrival of former DKB star Mads Sørensen.

By utilising strong agency contacts and local expertise on both a domestic and international level, Beatbox has grown fast but steadily, and large-scale shows are now on the menu for next year.

“We wanted to build the company slowly and as we did not want to throw the company into financial turbulence which these stadium shows can be if they don’t sell,” says Mads Sørensen.

Recent sell outs have included Arcade Fire, Marilyn Manson, Air, Ryan Adams and Jose Gonzales, bringing Beatbox’s total of 2007 shows to over 800.

“We also probably have the biggest domestic roster in Denmark,” Mads says, about his 40-plus local acts that includes Trentemøller, Mew, D-A-D and Thomas Helmig. “We’re promoting domestic acts in Copenhagen, but using local partners elsewhere.”

International shows account for 20% of company turnover, and Sørensen says that Beatbox tussles very infrequently with his former employers and much larger neighbours. “We only compete on around 10% of our shows,” he says. “Our advantage is that we have a lot of musical knowledge so we know precisely what an act’s worth in tickets.”
