ILMC
XVI ENTERS THE FINISHING STRAIGHT
March
12-14
Royal Garden Hotel
|
With the opening ceremony of the sixteenth ILMC-iad
now only weeks away, the air of excitement at the scene of
the industry’s very own Polemic Games is building to a fever pitch.
Entry forms are pouring in from top competitors all over the world at
a record-setting pace - filling over half of the limited capacity within
a matter of weeks and nearly packing the the Royal Garden Hotel ‘delegates
village’ to overflowing.
To make sure that even those at the back of the pack get
a fair chance to take their place on the starting blocks for the ultimate
“Games without Frontiers”, and to remind everyone else of
quite what they’ve signed up for, we are resending the original
glossy registration packs along with a rather scruffy (but information-packed)
‘update’ newsletter. Those with the capacity to turn on
a computer will, as usual, have the pleasure of reading this elegant
prose here first and, of course, be able to read the latest news and
even more detailed information on-line at www.ilmc.com.
The Chairmen and Committee look forward to seeing you
all in March. It seems that ILMC XVI really will be ‘the only
games in town’.
A
MARATHON AGENDA
AAs we have already said, this year
will see a radical shake-up in the way the meeting schedule is presented.
The traditional Main Room will be divided into two sections which - along
with the areas normally reserved for ‘breakout’ meetings -
will provide us with a total of five meeting rooms, and the extra space
we need to offer a larger menu of more focused discussion topics. Most
meetings will be held during ninety minute sessions separated by short
intervals – and to minimise the unavoidable conflict between topics,
there will usually be no more than three running simultaneously. We hope
these changes will lead to one of our most productive meetings ever.
As far as the discussion topics themselves are concerned,
we’ve now received sufficient input from the members to be able
to arrive at some conclusions. Our thanks to everyone who contributed
ideas. In a following email, we will be sending you a ‘session
planner’ laying out brief details of the agenda as it currently
stands – but any further suggestions are still welcome.
MORE
FUN AND GAMES
It’s time to get into training for the daunting
schedule of events that the ILMC XVI has in store. This year we’re
presenting an extra-curricular agenda more action packed than ever before.
Check in the registration brochure or at www.ilmc.com for details - but
meanwhile here are a few quick updates:
* The
deadline for entries for Thursday’s “Rider Cup”
golf tournament will be March 3rd.
* It looks as though the winners of the Super Grand Prix
Go Karting may be taking away even more than the legendary Stacey Cup,
as top UK race circuit Rockingham Raceway are set to
donate ‘race day experiences’ to each team member. Ever
thought about driving a single-seater racing car around a giant oval
at 130mph? This could be your big chance...
* Platinum-selling Jamie Cullum is set
to break the ILMC’s long tradition of being a ’music-free
zone’ in style when he takes the stage during the Modern Jazz-athalon
in our own Philip Morris Speakeasy at 6:30pm on Friday evening.
* If you’re looking for the perfect place to take
on some pre-race carbohydrates on Friday evening, may we recommend ‘Dinner
in The Garden’ – exclusive delegate dining in the
Royal Garden’s own Park Terrace restaurant.
* Even the most seasoned competitors will not be immune
to injury in the rigours of our Polemic Games schedule - whether it’s
from bending over backwards, suffering a bruised ego, or straining to
follow one of Carl’s arguments - so executives will be relieved
to hear that Active Foundation are providing two massage therapists
to soothe your aches and pains away in the lower ground floor lobby
area during the weekend. To make you feel even better - it’s free!
* We hope you’ve been practising hard for our Saturday
and Sunday night ‘delegate jams’, as hosts
Rock-It Cargo will be laying on prizes for the best (and worst..) performances.
* Saturday’s ‘Feast of Champions’ Gala
Dinner & Arthur Awards is filling up faster than a delegate
at a free bar - so make sure to book in now if you want to find out
just how we’re going to get Carl on to the stage this time...
* The same applies to our ‘Aussie Rules’
Sunday night dinner in the Royal Garden’s ‘Tenth’
restaurant - where we seem to have enough lunacy lined up to have the
place jumping like a kangaroo on a hot tin dunny!
* Contrary to scurrilous rumour, it really is up to you
to decide the winners of the Arthur Awards - our completely
accidental candidate for the most prestigious honour available in the
international business. Once you’ve registered you will be sent
a voting form. Use it wisely, but above all use it - or risk being forever
filed in our mailing list database under the category of ‘Boring
B*****d'
