'IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY...'

Well – in fact nobody ever did teach the ILMC band to play, but it looks like we made it anyway. When we first started it was not even a possibility that we considered – but somehow we got here, and – after two decades of ‘going in and out of style’, but always ‘guaranteed to raise a smile’ – the next edition of the conference will mark its 20th anniversary.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, once again we're inviting the great and the good from the live industries of over 50 different countries to join us in London next March for what we’re going to make sure is the biggest, boldest and brightest meeting ever (and if you're reading this, believe it or not, that means YOU...).

In particular, we want to encourage all those long-standing members and ILMC notables – those whose attendance over the years has made the conference what it now is – to make sure that they don’t miss this one. You know who you are… It’s largely down to you that we’ve made it this far, so we really want you to be there and help us make this milestone anniversary a truly special one.

So now – to further abuse the words of the song - ‘may I introduce to you, the act you’ve known for all these years.’

We hope you will enjoy the show….

THE HAPPENING

If you hadn’t already guessed from the ‘subtle’ graphical clues, to remind all of our older members where they started (and to really confuse those who were still playing with toy bricks even when the ILMC took its first faltering steps onto the world’s conference stage), this time we’re going to take you back to where it all began: the days of Flower Power and the Summer of Love in the Swinging Sixties. Too much? We hope not… So dig out your old crushed velvet loons, start growing that hair (those who still can, anyway...) and get ready to turn up, tune in and speak out for 'three days of speech on music' at ILMC 20.

The issue of our way out and crazy IQ magazine that has hopefully just arrived on your desk, comes complete with registration forms, a feature detailing everything you need to know about ILMC 20, and lots of really trippy colours... Even more information can be found at our groovy new conference website at www.ilmc.com – along with on-line registration via our secure server and updates all the way through to the conference weekend.

If it isn’t too much of a downer, and you can get it together to go through the hassle of filling in the forms quickly enough, then there is even more bread to be saved this year by registering before 6pm GMT on 31st January 2008 and qualifying for the discounted rate. And if that wasn’t enough to get you rummaging through your tie-dye shoulder bag for the company credit card, bear in mind that the timeless honour of the ‘ILMC Mug Award’ is waiting to be bestowed upon the very cool cat who manages to get their form back to us first. We’re just beautiful people, you see...?

Cosmic though we may be, however, one reality that we can’t alter is the conference’s capacity. We’re going to try to fit in as many people as possible for this special anniversary edition, but it’s inevitable that a lot of people are going to end up being – quite literally – far out. It’s enough to give you the horrors, but – on this occasion at least – the answer my friends is not blowin’ in the wind….

THE SIT-INS

We work hard to keep the conference sessions as relevant as possible, which is why we poll a selection of industry pundits and professionals every year to weed out a fresh crop of suggestions. And because we don’t announce the agenda until the February issue of IQ, you can be sure that the conference sessions will be relevant and up to the minute. Like any good bunch of hippies, we’re always open to new, mind-expanding ideas, so if there’s something you’d like to see on the menu, drop us a line at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS

Like any self-respecting, free-living collective, we rely on our member companies and individuals for support. Without the involvement of the happy band below, the ILMC would be no more than a hallucination…

Heading the line-up as Platinum, Gold and Silver ‘title’ sponsors of ILMC 20 are Live Nation, The O2 and Ticketpro – with our special 'Associate’ sponsors Showsec, LTU Arenas, Ticketmaster and The Millennium Stadim. Already giving their support to bring you a whole range of services, features and events throughout the weekend are Robertson Taylor Insurance Brokers, AEG Live, Rock-it Cargo, American Talent Agency, Pollstar Magazine, Vibe Productions, DNA Networks, Feld Entertainment, Gay and Company, Aiken Promotions, Welldone Agency – with invaluable help from Berryhurst, Britannia Row Productions, Creative Technology, Entec Sound & Light, EST, Inner Sanctum, Michael Simkins Solicitors LLP, Music Bank (Hire), Primary Talent International, PSL, The Safety Officer, The Tour Company, Blackout, PRG and XL Video.

If you want to join all of the beautiful people above, and spread both your message and some love to heads and hipsters everywhere, contact Chris Prosser ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or tel: +44 (0)20 7284 5860) for the low down on the few remaining sponsor and advertising opportunities.

IN WITH THE IN CROWD

Our North London commune continues to grow in size, and there’s a fresh crop of hip and groovy people who’ve signed up to help with the 2008 event.

Jill Stephens is on board as Assistant Producer after a long career in live including having worked for Harvey Goldsmith and on the Concert for Diana. Registration Assistant Michelle Cain is a familiar face in the London industry after stints at Live Nation and The Agency Group, and event manager Sharon Ashley is back by popular demand after previously touring with the likes of Queen, Roger Waters and George Michael.

It’s going to be quite a trip…

RTC NEWS ROUND UP

There’s more news on our new website – www.ilmc.com – than badges at a biker rally, so check it out, man. There’s Round the Clock News (ably updated by our very own Ben Challis amongst others) and in the IQ news section, you’ll find all of the stories and articles from the magazine for your online perusal.
