Bad news today for the major record labels as the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education rejected proposals which would would have set up mandatory Internet Service Providers copyright filters (against illegal file sapping and downloading) and would have extended EU copyrights in sound recordings from 50 years to match the USA's approximate 95-year term. The IFPI and other record label trade associations had lobbied extensively for these changes.
