One of the Jazz world's most innovative drummers, Max Roach, has died aged 83.

Roach is credited as being one the first musicians to develop drum solos as well as developing percussion ensembles.

A successful recording and touring artist, Roach also wrote music for musicals and worked with some of the all time greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davies and Charlie Parker.
