The extraordinary rise in the number of concerts, events and firework displays at historic buildings in the UK and elsewhere may be having a detrimental effect on the fabric and contents of buildings, with rock and pop concerts which have loud amplified and bass driven music the major culprit.

Results of an investigation at Hampton Court Palace which hosts a three-week music festival have shown the windows have been loosened and that vibrations may have damaged brickwork although the evidence for this was less certain.

Other venues which are thought to be at risk are The Tower of London which now hosts an annual festival, Kew Palace and Kensington Palace.
