HMV Surprise Retail Star in UK & Eire
HMV have bucked the flat UK and Eire Christmas retail period with record sales, although these have been driven in the main by video games and DVDs. The combined sales result of HMV's music stores and Waterstones book shops showed sales up 9.4% on the same peirod in 2006. Whilst DVDs and games sales were exceptional, music sales were still good thanks to albums from Kylie, Madonna, U2, Keane and Dido which allowed HMV to show a 2% rise in music sales.
