Sixteen million watch Glastonbury on TV

The sold out Glastonbury Festival was watched by over sixteen million people on TV in the UK with figures topping 1.8 million average for Bruce Springteen's Saturday night headline show and 1.7 million for the early evening Sunday show that featured Tom Jones.

 

Blur's extraordinary Sunday night show, which has already been described as 'the greatest comeback show ever' picked up 1.9 million viewers. Overall viewing figures were up on 2008 for the festival, which is filmed and recorded by the BBC and goes out on BBC2 , BBC3 and BBC4 with over 111 hours of TV over the weekend including 'red button' channels and webstreaming alongside radio coverage on BBC Radio 1, 6Music, 1Xtra and Radio5 live and streaming on the internet. The biggest increases were most notably on BBC4 with their coverage of Madness, Status Quo, The Specials (350,000), a repeat of Bruce Springsteen (500,000) and Crosby Stills Nash and Young with 350,000 viewers.
