Yes folks, gong time is upon us yet again - in a busy night in London both the MOBOs (Music of Black Origin) and the Vodafone Live Music Awards took place.
The MOBOs were headed up by Kanye West busily trouncing 50 Cent in the US album charts and in London snatching two gongs for Best Video (Stronger) and Best Hip Hop. Best UK Female went to Amy Winehouse, Best UK Male - Dizzee
Rascal, Best International Act - Rihanna, Best Song - Ne-Yo 'Because Of
You', Best UK Newcomer - N Dubz, Best R&B - Ne-Yo, Best Reggae -
Sean Kingston, Best Gospel - G-Force, Best DJ - Tim Westwood, Best Jazz
- Soweto Kinch, Best African Act - 2face Idibia.
The Vodafone Live Music Awards at Earl's Court were televised in the UK on Channel 4 and were topped by the Artic Monkey's who picked up the coveted Best Live Act. Mercury Music Prize winners The Klaxons won the XFM Live Breakthrough Act. Muse Picked up 'Tour of the Year' and the unique Best Tour Roadie accolade - which last year went to Primal Scream's legendary drum tech, fixer and general trouble-shooter Fatty - was won by James' roadie Geoff Buckley
Iggy Pop was honoured with the Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music Award. The Killers picked up Best International Live Act and Amy Winehouse won another gong (did no one listen to her in laws?) for Best Live Female. Best Live Male went to Mika, the 'Live Impact' gong went to The Gossip and Best Show Production to Kylie.
The Channel 4 Festival of the Year 2007 went to Glastonbury and The Police picked up a gong for their phenomenal return to the live scene. In the primate friendly winners list, The Kerrang! Live Unsigned Act went to The Flaming Monkeys.
