Japanese immigration authorities have refused Velvet Revolver's
request for visas, forcing the band to cancel four shows scheduled
later this month. The band's later dates in Australia are unaffected.
In a statement the band says that "increasingly tough" Japanese
immigration officials took exception to the backgrounds of various Velvet Revolver
members, which have included arrests. The band is appealing the
decision but that process may take "months" and so the dates will be
cancelled. The band were granted visas to tour Japan in 2005. On November 20th, Japan
is scheduled to become the second country in the world (after the
United States) to introduce biometric screening (including
fingerprinting) of all foreign nationals entering the country.
